April Newsletter
Well April started awhile ago and we definately have the April
showers.....just wish they were warmer showers!!! If the April showers
don't quit for a few days there won't be any May flowers because no one
will be able to get them planted. :) Luckily there were a couple dry
days and Scott got some sweet corn, beans, and peas planted out in the
fields. We have cabbage, kohlrabi, eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes
growing in flats but have not been able to get any of them outside yet.
They are safe in the greenhouse because there are STILL chances of snow
in the forecast.
Scott got a new 2 row planter that he is very happy about as
well as a "middle buster" which he tells me he needs for potatoes and
will help all the other stuff grow better too. He's worried about new
strawberries and onions coming the middle of April that are supposed to
go in the ground as soon as they are delivered......we don't start
those from seed.
Once April 15th has come and gone I will be able to help
Scott more full time so hopefully the weather is better then and we can
both be outside in the field getting things done. He tells me we have A
LOT to do before May 15th. Both the kids are in Little League and are
supposed to have games on Saturday and the high is supposed to be 38
degrees.......BRRRRRR.
The neighbor told us the other day that there is a momma fox
again with pups (is that what they are called?) living under his
storage shed. It's so cool to look outside now and then and see her
running in the field. We just have to keep a closer eye on our old dog
Max. He is a little terrier that is 13 years old and likes to bark at
squirrels and rabbits (and sometimes customers) but if he tries barking
at the momma fox he might get himself in more trouble than he can
handle.
We still have some shares left to sell. Most established CSAs
have a lot of members that renew every year so there are not a lot of
available shares. Since this is our first year we are still trying to
get the word out and we are actually giving a share away on the radio
station KWBG. They are doing their spring auction April 17th and 18th
so if you know someone that would like to get a membership, they might
be able to get a deal on the auction. Scott did an interview for it and
they are putting him on the radio now and then on these days before the
auction. The kids think it's really cool to hear daddy on the radio in
the morning before they go to school.
Once taxes are over I will have more time to get the website
updated and get more info to our members about details for the season
on pick up instructions and such. If anyone has questions that they
think should be addressed on the website let me know and I will put
them in the FAQ page so members and potential members can get the info
they need from the website. I need to get more photos taken but I just
don't feel like going out there and taking pictures of BARE ground.
